Directions For Use
Directions for use:
- Wash your hands.
- Prepare your glucometer, a test strip, a lancet.
- Choose your blood sample site (finger or alternative site)
- Briskly rub your hands together or put your hand under warm running water, this will help increase blood flow making it easier to take a sample.
- Turn on the glucometer, place a test strip in the machine when the machine prompts you to do so. Watch the indicator for the signal to place the blood on the strip.
- Pierce your finger tip on the soft, fleshy pad and obtain a drop of blood. Place the drop of blood on or at the side of the strip (depends on the strip requirement).
- The glucometer will take a few moments to calculate the blood sugar reading. Follow your doctor's orders for whatever blood sugar reading you get.
- Write down your results. Keeping a record makes it easier for you and your doctor to establish a good treatment plan. Some glucometers can store your results in a memory, for easier record keeping.
Safety
Many glucometers require a code from the test strip bottle to be entered prior to testing. By not entering the code you run the risk of an inaccurate reading.
It’s best to use a new lancet for each test. To dispose of the used lancet, push the needle into the twist off top, then discard.
Be sure to have fresh batteries for your glucometer so that testing is not interrupted.
